Auto mode

Choose a song and clips. Auto mode cuts them to the music, leaving every clip editable on the timeline.

How it works

  1. 1

    Pick a song

Use any audio file or a beat from the Library. DriftEdit analyses the tempo, bars, song sections and drop.

  2. 2

Pick a style and a length

30 to 60 seconds, from the drop or from the start, vertical by default.

  3. 3

    Make the edit

DriftEdit checks clips and photos for sharpness, motion and subject position, then places the strongest moments on the hits.

  4. 4

    Change anything

Every shot is an editable clip. Another take reshuffles the edit. Remake keeps edited shots and rebuilds the rest around them.

Seven styles

Each style below shows four bars of a drop, using the same cut pattern as the editor.

Clean

Straight cuts on the bar

Straight cuts on the bar, with the footage left free of effects.

Cinematic

Long holds, slow push-ins

Holds shots across several bars, with slower playback in calm passages. Uses dissolves and a film grade.

Smooth

Transitions between shots

Cuts on the bar with dissolves, zooms, blurs and slides between shots.

Hype

Cuts on kicks, punch-ins on the drop

Cuts on every kick of the drop, with a bounce on each cut. Adds punch-ins at new sections and whip-pan transitions.

Velocity

Speed ramps into every hit

Speed ramps slow the footage on each kick of the drop and speed it up between kicks. Uses slower playback in calm passages, with zoom transitions and a vivid grade.

Chaos

Glitch and shake on the hits

Cuts on every kick, with short bursts of glitch, RGB split and shake on the hits.

Reverse

Reverse shots on the beat

Cuts on kicks, with reverse shots that zoom as they play. Adds rewinds on the beat and into the drop.

Hatched clips play in reverse. A notch marks a transition.

How the music shapes the edit

Cuts on the kicks

Cuts align with each kick's attack rather than a fixed tempo grid. Bars without a kick still get a cut.

Sections and the drop

Auto mode identifies the intro, build, drop, break and outro. Quieter sections hold shots for a bar with softer transitions; the strongest footage goes at the drop.

Speed, pulses and rewinds

Depending on the style, the edit adds zoom pulses on every kick of a drop, speed changes into hits and rewinds on the beat.

Adjust the beat and reuse analysis

When the beat is off

Some songs start with a pickup or are detected at half or double tempo. Adjust the tempo or first bar in the Auto panel before making the edit.

On your device

Song and footage analysis runs in the browser tab. Results are saved with each file, so later edits can reuse them.
