- Use Premiere Pro keyboard shortcuts
- In Help, Keyboard shortcuts, set Preset to Premiere Pro. Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on a Mac) splits at the playhead. C activates the Blade tool; N activates the Roll tool. S toggles snapping. Click a shortcut to assign a custom key.
- Ripple delete a clip
- Select the clip and press Shift+Delete, or choose Edit, Delete and close the gap. Later clips move back to fill the gap.
- Use slip, slide and roll tools
- In the Clip menu, choose Slip tool, Slide tool or Roll tool (Y, U and R with the default shortcuts). Drag the clip for a slip or slide, or the shared cut for a roll. A roll preserves the combined length of the two clips.
- Loop between in and out points
- Use I and O to set in and out points at the playhead. Then choose Sequence, Loop playback between in and out.
- Animate with keyframes and easing
- Enable the diamond beside Scale, Position, Rotation, Anchor or Opacity in the Video tab. Move the playhead and change the value. To set easing, place the playhead on a keyframe in the Animate tab and choose Linear, Ease in, Ease out, Ease in and out, Hold or Curve.
- Apply the same look to several clips
- Grade a clip in the Adjust tab and choose Save look. Apply the saved look to selected clips from Yours in Effects. To copy attributes directly, copy the clip, select the others and choose Edit, Paste attributes. Choose Effects, Opacity and blend, or Volume, pan and fades.
- Create J and L cuts
- With the clip selected, open Techniques, Sound edits. Apply Sound leads in for a J cut or Sound carries on for an L cut. Each shifts the sound half a second across the cut.
- Generate captions or use subtitle files
- In Captions, choose From speech for on-device transcription in any of 99 languages, or Import SRT or WebVTT. Use Export to save SRT or WebVTT files. Burn into the video controls whether captions appear in the exported picture.
- Move a project to another computer
- Open Project file in the top bar and choose Save a project file. For a smaller file, choose Save a project file without media. On the other computer, use Project file, Open a project file.
- Set a custom export bitrate
- Open Export in the top bar, set Quality to Custom and enter a Bitrate. Free exports support up to 1080p at up to 60 fps with a faint DriftEdit watermark.
- Return to an earlier edit
- Open Edit, History of edits and select a step. The project returns to its state just after that step.
- Unlink video and audio
- Select the clip, then choose Clip, Unlink video and audio. Before unlinking, the sound moves with the picture.
