Coming from DaVinci Resolve

DaVinci Resolve's free edition combines professional editing, colour grading, audio and compositing, with exports up to Ultra HD at 60 fps. This guide covers short music edits, where its tools overlap with DriftEdit. DriftEdit runs in a browser tab without installation, is tested on Android phones and computers, and has an auto mode that cuts clips to a song's kicks.

Familiar tasks in DriftEdit

Cut a music edit to the beat
In Auto, choose a song, clips, a style and a length. Select Make the edit to create editable clips on the timeline. Remake around my changes preserves shots edited by hand.
Add beat markers to a manual edit
Choose Find the beats in Techniques. It marks the song's kicks, snares, bars and sections on the timeline so clips can snap to them.
Time a speed ramp to a hit
In Techniques, apply Velocity on the beat. The clip slows on each kick and speeds up between kicks. For a custom ramp, open the Speed tab and choose Ramp. Drag points on the Speed curve; they snap to nearby beats.
Smooth slow motion with frame blending
In the Speed tab, choose Constant, set the speed below 1× and enable Frame blending. It blends neighbouring frames rather than repeating a single frame.
Grade a clip
In the Adjust tab, choose Adjust the colour. Exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, saturation, temperature and tint all support keyframes. For preset looks, open Effects: options include Teal and orange, Cinematic and Bleach bypass.
Adjust individual colours
Apply Colour by range from Effects. It provides separate hue, saturation and lightness adjustments for eight hues. Softer yellows and Less yellow are presets for reducing a yellow cast.
Save and reuse a grade
Select the graded clip and choose Save look in the Adjust tab. The look appears under Yours in Effects and can be applied to selected clips. To apply a revised look to every clip using it, right-click the preset and choose Update the clips using it.
Key out a green or blue screen
Place the clip on the upper track. In Effects, under Keying, apply Green screen or Blue screen. Adjust Tolerance, Softness and Spill in the Adjust tab.
Mask part of the frame
In Effects, under Keying, apply Box mask, Oval mask or Split mask. In the Adjust tab, set Keep to Inside or Outside and use Feather to soften the edge. Select On the viewer to position the mask with handles.
Blend two images
Place one image on the track above the other. In the Video tab, set Blend to Multiply, Screen, Overlay, Add, Darken or Lighten.
Apply a transition to every cut
Drag a transition from Transitions onto a cut. Right-click it and choose Apply to every cut on this track. To change a transition's length, drag its edges on the timeline.
Export in several aspect ratios
Open Export in the top bar. Under Also in, choose 9:16, 4:5, 1:1 or 16:9. Each version is reframed, and all files are saved in one zip.
