How to import media, make an edit and export it.

Your first edit

  1. 1

    Import media

Select Import or drop files anywhere in the studio. Video, photos, songs and SRT or WebVTT captions are supported. Imported files stay in browser storage for the next session.

  2. 2

    Make an auto edit

Open Auto in the sidebar, or the action bar on a phone. Choose a song, style and length, then select Make the edit. Another take reshuffles the edit; Remake keeps manual changes.

  3. 3

    Edit on the timeline

Drag a clip to move it or an edge to trim it. Press S to split at the playhead. Right-click or long-press to open a context menu.

  4. 4

    Export

Select Export in the top bar. Set the format, resolution, frame rate and quality, then choose where to save the file.

Good to know

Move an edit between devices

Choose Project file in the top bar to save a .driftedit file, with or without media. On another device, choose Project file, Open to load it.

Shortcuts and edit history

Open Help, Keyboard shortcuts for the full list, grouped by menu. Edit, History lists each editing step; select one to return to it.

Restore missing media

Clearing browser data removes imported files. Reimport the same file or choose Find the file on its tile to restore every clip that uses it.

Smooth playback

Playback uses a lower-resolution proxy of each video. When paused, the viewer shows the full-resolution frame. Turn off Proxy below the viewer to play the original instead.
