# Terms

> The terms for using DriftEdit: what it is, what the free plan allows, your files and what you make, and what belongs to whom.

https://driftedit.app/terms/

The agreement between you and Drift Technologies about using DriftEdit, in ordinary sentences and as short as the subject allows.

Version 1.0, in effect since 3 November 2026

## 1. Who is responsible

DriftEdit is a web application published by **Drift Technologies**, an independent studio operated from Italy. These terms are the agreement between you and Drift Technologies about using it. Using the editor at [studio.driftedit.app](https://studio.driftedit.app/) or this website means you accept them; if you do not, please use neither.

Drift Technologies is a trading name rather than a registered company. If you need its full legal identity and postal address, for a legal notice or any other proper purpose, write to [info@driftedit.app](mailto:info@driftedit.app?subject=DriftEdit%20legal) and it will be provided.

## 2. What these terms cover

The website at driftedit.app, the editor at studio.driftedit.app and the service behind it, and anything else served from those names. [The privacy policy](https://driftedit.app/privacy/) and [the licence](https://driftedit.app/licence/) sit beside this document and are part of the same agreement: the first says what is processed, the second what you may do with what you make.

## 3. What DriftEdit is

A video editor that runs in your browser tab, with an auto mode that cuts your footage to a song. Your files are decoded, analysed, drawn and encoded on your own device: there is nothing to install and nothing is uploaded.

An account is optional. The free plan works signed out; an account keeps your plan and your preferences on every device you sign in on.

**Coming: Pro.** The paid plan is built and switched off. Nothing is for sale today and there is no card field anywhere in the product. Section 15 covers payment once it is.

## 4. Early software

DriftEdit is early, and that describes its condition rather than labels it. It will change, sometimes substantially, and parts of it may be reworked or removed. Faults are expected: a file may not import, an export may fail on a device where it worked yesterday, and a browser without WebCodecs cannot decode or encode video at all.

There is no promise that a particular feature will ship, or that any part of DriftEdit will keep working the way it works today.

## 5. Who can use it

You need to be at least 13 years old. If the country you live in sets a higher minimum age for agreeing to online services on your own, which in parts of the European Union is 16, that higher age applies to you instead. Below it, a parent or guardian has to read these terms and agree to them for you.

## 6. Your files, and what happens to them

The video, photos, songs and caption files you open are read by your browser and are never sent to Drift Technologies. There is no upload step and no route on the service that could take one: that is how DriftEdit is built, not a promise about how it is run.

Your projects and the media you import are kept in this browser's storage on your own device. Clearing the site's data, using a private window, or changing browser or device loses them, and they cannot be recovered for you because they were never held anywhere else. Keep what matters as an export or a project file while you have it.

## 7. The free plan

On the free plan, exports are up to 1080p at 60 frames a second and carry the DriftEdit mark, and a project locks 48 hours after its last edit. A locked project is kept on your device with its media, never deleted, and Pro opens it again. Exports are your files and never expire.

These limits are applied by the editor on your device. Working around them, by altering the editor or removing the mark from an export, is not permitted (section 10).

## 8. You are responsible for what you put in

You need the right to use every clip, photo, song, typeface and caption you bring into DriftEdit. That is genuinely your responsibility rather than a formality: your files never arrive at Drift Technologies, so they could not be checked even if checking them were wanted.

**One practical warning, because it will happen to somebody.** A video made in DriftEdit carries the song you cut it to, and video platforms mute, claim or take down an upload automatically when their systems recognise music in it. That is their system acting on its own. Nothing in the video can be changed to stop it, and holding a licence for the song does not always prevent it either.

## 9. What you make

The video is yours, subject to [the licence](https://driftedit.app/licence/), which also covers the Library's sounds, beats, overlays and stickers and the free mark.

If you publish a video made in DriftEdit somewhere public, you allow that same post to be reshared on Drift Technologies channels with credit to you. That covers resharing what you already chose to publish and nothing else; it can be withdrawn by saying so, and the reshare comes down. Nothing of yours will be used in paid advertising without asking first.

## 10. What belongs to Drift Technologies

The application and everything it is made of: the source, the builds your browser downloads, the director and its styles, the effects, transitions, text styles and animations, the Library, the interface, the name DriftEdit and the Drift Technologies name and marks. Where something is used under another's licence (the typefaces and Mediabunny, listed on [the about page](https://driftedit.app/about/)), that licence is theirs and stays theirs.

Permission to use DriftEdit does not cover:

- copying, mirroring, rehosting or redistributing the editor or any part of it, including on your own domain or inside another application;
- extracting the code, the effects, the styles, the Library or any other asset to use it outside DriftEdit;
- modifying the editor and distributing the result, or altering it to lift a limit of the free plan;
- removing, hiding or altering a copyright notice, the free plan's mark or any mark that says where something came from;
- using DriftEdit, its assets or its output in bulk as training material for a machine learning model;
- selling, licensing or renting any part of it, or charging anybody for access to it.

## 11. What not to do to the service

Do not attack it or try to break it for other people. That covers overwhelming it with automated traffic, probing it for weaknesses without permission, and working around its rate limits. If you are a security researcher and have found something, write to [info@driftedit.app](mailto:info@driftedit.app?subject=DriftEdit%20security) before going further.

## 12. Copyright complaints

If you hold rights in something you believe appears in DriftEdit without permission, say so and it will be acted on. Write to [info@driftedit.app](mailto:info@driftedit.app?subject=DriftEdit%20copyright) with Copyright in the subject. A formal process is not needed to take something down; so that it can be acted on quickly, please include:

- what the work is, and enough detail to identify it;
- where it appears: a page address, a style, an effect or a screen in the editor;
- your name and contact details, and if you act for somebody else, who they are;
- a statement that you believe the use is not authorised by the rights holder or by law;
- a statement that what you have said is accurate and that you are entitled to act for the rights holder.

## 13. Availability, and the absence of a warranty

DriftEdit is provided as it is, with no promise that it will work on your device, that it will be available when you want it, or that it will be free of faults. It may change, parts of it may be taken offline, and it may stop being served.

**It needs a current browser.** Decoding and encoding use WebCodecs, the picture is drawn with WebGL 2 where there is one, and projects and media are kept in the browser's own storage. A browser without these, or a device without the memory for the size you choose, will not do everything, and the editor says so where it can.

**How fast it runs is a fact about your device.** Playback and how long an export takes depend on your processor, your graphics, your video encoder and what else is running. The same project is quick on one device and slow on another, and that is not a fault support can repair.

**So try it before you pay for it.** The free plan runs the same editor, the same renderer and the same exporter as Pro; the difference is the size, the frame rate, the mark and the lock, never the speed. A few minutes on your own device tells you what Pro would be like.

## 14. Liability

Drift Technologies is responsible to you for loss caused by failing to take reasonable care, up to what is foreseeable. Total liability to you for anything connected with DriftEdit is limited to the greater of 100 euro and what you paid Drift Technologies in the twelve months before the claim.

There is no liability for a lost project, an export that did not finish, a platform's decision about an upload, or anything else that follows from the editor working differently than you hoped.

None of this limits liability the law does not allow to be limited, which includes death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, gross negligence and intentional wrongdoing. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected by anything in this document.

## 15. Payment

**Coming.** Nothing is charged for today and there is no card field in the product. When Pro goes on sale, payment is taken by Stripe, and this section will set out the billing terms, renewal, cancellation, refunds and your right of withdrawal, and the pricing page will stop saying Coming.

## 16. Ending it

You can stop using DriftEdit whenever you like: close the tab, and clear the site's data in your browser if you want to remove what it kept. An account is deleted from Profile and settings in the editor, with any subscription. Access may be blocked where somebody is attacking the service or breaking these terms.

## 17. Changes to these terms

This document will change as DriftEdit grows. Every version has a number and a date at the top, and what changed is listed at the bottom. A change that materially affects you will be said plainly at the top of this page for a while, rather than left to be spotted.

## 18. Which law applies

These terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the law of Italy, and the courts of Italy have jurisdiction. If you use DriftEdit as a consumer living in the European Union or the United Kingdom, that does not take away the protection the mandatory rules of your own country give you, and you can bring a claim in your own local courts.

## 19. Odds and ends

If a court decides part of this document cannot stand, the rest continues to apply. A right not enforced straight away is not a right given up. This document, with the privacy policy and the licence, is the whole agreement about DriftEdit. It is written in English, and a translation is there to help you read it while the English governs.

## 20. Getting in touch

[info@driftedit.app](mailto:info@driftedit.app?subject=DriftEdit%20) reaches a person: copyright complaints, privacy requests, legal notice, or a question about any of the above.

## What changed
